gardens

The gardens attract

an array of beneficial insects

that happily drink

a variety of nectar's.

Bees, butterflies

and praying mantis

can be noticed by the spying eye.

Because of the native

and host plants that I grow,

I am registered with

the Monarch Watch program.

I allow visitors to gently harvest flowers,

as this increases a relationship with the plants

and encourages the flowers

to share more blooms.

marigolds are one of the best choices

to use as a garden paintbrush.

Plants can be purchased at the farm or at my farmers markets sites

@ Cottins Hardware farmers Market,

or the Downtown Lawrence Farmers market.

eat8flowers gardens are not grown in rows,

but designs around the yard.

They include culinary herbs, medicinal plants,

and many varieties of scented mints

and edible flowers.

Each area is considered

in companion planting-

combining a fruit or vegetable plant,

a scented herb to invite pollinators

while distracting predators,

and a flower to add color.

I also give thought to plants

with different shapes,

sizes or textures of leaves.

Varieties that may be available are naturally sourced and grown:

Mints- soft apple mint, pure spearmint, variegated peppermint, chocolate mint, and pear mint. Also catnip and catmint,

Scented geraniums- rose of attar, peacock, or spice
